Dave's Ghost Pepper Naga Jolokia Hot Sauce

A new superhot hot sauce has joined the ranks of our Insanity Sauces. Made with the same Bhut Jolokia/Ghost Peppers (the hottest peppers in the world!) as the 2008 Special Reserve, this is one flavorful but supremely hot sauce.

Ingredients: Ghost Pepper/Naga Jolokia, hot pepper extract, salt, vegetable oil, roasted garlic pulp.

About the Pepper
The bhut jolokia-also known variously by other names in its native region, most commonly naga jolokia - is a chili pepper generally recognized as the hottest in the world. The pepper is often called the ghost chili. In 2007, Guinness World Records certified the Bhut Jolokia as the world's hottest chili pepper, 400 times hotter than Tabasco sauce.

Scoville rating
In 2004, India's Defence Research Laboratory (DRL) reported a rating of 1,041,427 units was made using HPLC analysis. For comparison, Tabasco red pepper sauce rates at 2,500-5,000, and pure capsaicin (the chemical responsible for the pungency of pepper plants) rates at 15,000,000-16,000,000 Scoville units.

The Scoville scale is a measure of the 'hotness' of a chilli pepper or anything derived from chilli peppers, i.e. hot sauce. I was treated to this a year ago by one of my college roomies. It quickly became a symbol of manliness in our suite. Fast forward almost a year. Nothing is as hot and I'm craving what wrecked my mouth and tongue with only one drop. From the minute you first open the bottle, give it a quick smell, you realize, you are about to question what you are bout to do. This goes on everything, simply because as soon as you get a taste, you taste anything else. Your mouth is on fire. You have tears running down your face. Your noise is running like a faucet. Giving a sample to my friend's at home has dubbed the ghost pepper sauce as "Liquid Death." Let's not be fooled here, this does have a flavor before the heat hits you like a locomotive. I'd like to describe it as a sweet smoky flavor. And that's probably the most addicting aspect of this sauce, trying to taste that part again before you can't taste anything right for the next day or so. This stuff makes me burp almost instantly, fantastic. I once had too much on a burrito, felt my heart beating like crazy. I was afraid I wasn't going to survive it! This stuff is more than worth the price of admission to pain land!
